Want a Car That’ll Log 200,000 Miles? These Are Your Best Bets.

Built for distance. Definitely not built for speed.

When it comes to cars, you’ve got your sprinters and you’ve got your marathoners, and never shall the twain meet.

So if you’re looking for a Bugatti, move along. But if your Bugatti days are over (or never arrived) and you’re looking to settle down with a nice car that’ll last you the duration, this list is for you.

The kind crew over at iSeeCars.com recently did a close inspection of over 13 million vehicles to assess which makes had clocked more than 200,000 miles on the odi. Their results:

For the most part, they found that big and sturdy lends itself to longevity. Quite a few trucks and SUVs top the charts, most likely because they are commonly used as work vehicles, and thereby continually maintenanced and not used as vanity rides.  “Super-sized SUVs, such as the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Chevrolet Suburban, are often workhorses for families,” said Phong Ly, CEO of ISeeCars. “For parents who don’t want to drive a minivan, these are the vehicles of choice to transport the kids from one activity to the next.”

If you’re in the market for something you can count on but don’t need to haul whole soccer teams or bails of hay, the Toyota Avalon is your huckleberry. “While any vehicle on today’s market has the potential to travel 200,000 miles with proper maintenance and care, our list of longest-lasting vehicles shows that certain vehicles don’t just have the potential — they do last well past 200,000 miles far more frequently than other models,” added Ly.

And while the study doesn’t account for type of use and maintenance, the trend is apparent: when it comes to a sturdy vehicle, large and steady wins the race.
