Swiss alpine huts: They’re usually not very fancy, more typically being used by farmers tending to their flocks during the summer than guests in search of a mint on the pillow.

But they are, almost always, located smack-dab in the middle of some seriously gorgeous mountain scenery. Switzerland has perhaps the best and most extensive hiking network in the world. If you’re on a Swiss mountain, you’re probably very close to one of the best hikes of your life.

Now, the Swiss tourism board has made it easier than ever to book these often hard-to-find summer huts. Don’t expect: foam-memory mattresses, room service, hot water or any of the amenities for the weak-hearted among us. Do expect: views for miles. And — notable in a country where a Big Mac meal might cost around $20 — exceptional savings. Not all huts will come in at under $200 — a week — but some do, like this one, between Lucerne and Chur. And yes, it sleeps 10. We can basically hear the cowbells from here.

The full listings of summer huts are here. And if you’re looking for a more luxurious experience — that’s available, too. Here’s a two-bedroom cabin in the Valais — and it is nice. Wifi!

Book now — the service is just launched, so there’s plenty of availability for the summer.
