For One Night, Airbnb Is Turning the Louvre Into a Private Hotel

One winner will also get a VIP after-hours tour of the museum

A typical trip to the Louvre is rife with long lines, wrong turns and no more than a drive-by sighting of the Mona Lisa. Par for the course at a museum with 10 million annual visitors.

But if you play your cards right, your pilgrimage could be completely stress-free … and might even include pajamas.

Airbnb just launched a partnership with the Louvre, and the first promotion in the joint campaign is an old-fashioned essay contest for the right to spend one night in a cabin within the Louvre Pyramid.

All you have to do is fill in some basic information about yourself here, before explaining in 800 characters or less why you would be Mona Lisa’s perfect guest. (That translates to about 400 words.)

If you win, you can expect:

  • One night (April 30th) in the Louvre for you and one guest
  • An after-hours, VIP tour of the museum … usually reserved for people with last names like “Obama” and “Winfrey”
  • A drink in Mona Lisa’s living room, leaving you free to study the painting at your leisure
  • A dinner that takes inspiration from (and will be eaten next to), Venus of Milo, the famous sculpture by Alexandros of Antioch
  • An acoustic concert in Napoleon III’s apartments
  • Breakfast in bed. Of course! You’re in France, after all.

More Airbnb-Louvre collabs are coming, but this is a heady start. Airbnb is banking on those who fall short deciding “Ah, screw it, I’m due for a trip to Paris. I’ll stay around the corner.”

As for how you can actually win? Try to stand out. If you’re funny, all the better. Definitely don’t Wikipedia facts about the Louvre.
