Airbnb Just Acquired a Bunch of Homes Literally Fit for Kings

Richard Branson's 34-person private island is on there

Your Airbnb results are about to get significantly fancier. Like, private island-fancy.

OK, so the billion-dollar room-booking service already lists private islands: here are eight, ranging from an island in the Norwegian archipelago of Hvaler to the off-cited Bird Island in Belize.

With this week’s acquisition of Montreal-based vacation-rental booker Luxury Retreats, though, the islands (and other properties) on hand are going next-level. We’re talking Richard Branson’s Necker Island, currently available on Luxury Retreats for $80,000 per night (sleeps 34, across 17 bedrooms) and with a rating of 8 out of 10: “The villas were very nice except for our small bathroom with one sink and no tub.” (LOL.) Also, hysterically: “We had no idea Sir Richard Branson lived on Necker Island now and would be eating all his meals with us and doing water sports, tennis and every thing with us.”

Luxury Retreats will remain an independent brand and will retain its “dedicated villa specialists” for help in the booking process — but its listings will soon be integrated into the Airbnb database. That’s not interesting if you use the site to grab, say, the cheapest bed in Munich during Oktoberfest. But if you’re looking for a high-end beach spot in St. Barts, you will want to check it out.
