‘SNL’ Spies Humor in Donald Trump Jr.’s Communications With WikiLeaks
Kate McKinnon lends awful Australian accent as Julian Assange.
It was a hack job, all right. Saturday Night Live tried to mine some humor out of the communications between Donald Trump Jr. and WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential campaign.
The cold open to Saturday night’s SNL episode revolved around a secret underground parking lot meeting between Trump Jr., played by Mikey Day, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, played by Kate McKinnon. The normally funny Emmy winner, however, delivered the impersonation with an Australian accent so terrible that it could be classified as an international incident.
Alex Moffat later crashed the meeting and skit as Eric Trump, playing the son of the president as a wide-eyed man-child who calls their contact, “Julliard Massage” of “RickiLakes.”
The skit largely pokes fun at Eric, there was the typical SNL shot or two at the president. In exchange for the incriminating emails on Hillary Clinton, Assange demands to be cleared of all espionage charges. To which Trump Jr. replies that his father is “always loyal to his friends.”
“What about Chris Christie? And Rudy Giuliani? And mom?” Eric asks.
