Hacker Leaks Upcoming ‘Orange is the New Black’ Episodes Online

May 1, 2017 10:06 am

A hacker just released to the file-sharing site Pirate Bay what are supposedly the first 10 episodes of Orange is the New Black‘s 13-epidode fifth season. The OITNB theft is reportedly part of a larger haul of that includes unreleased TV shows from ABC, IFC, Fox, and National Geographic and is thought to be traced back to a 2016 hack of a post-production studio, according to a piracy-news site.

After Netflix rejected a “ransom” demand to avoid OITNB‘s episodes from going public, the hacker who stole the content, “thedarkoverlord,” responded:

“It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was. We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves.”

OITNB‘s new season is currently still scheduled to be released on June 9, but it’s not clear if the leak of most of the fifth season will force Netflix to move up the debut date.
