Bose Corp is using its wireless headphones to spy on users through a free app that tracks music, podcasts and other audio to which they listen, and then sells the information to third party vendors without the permission of the customers, a new bombshell lawsuit charges.
Kyle Zak filed the complaint Tuesday in federal court in Chicago, Reuters reports, and is seeking an injunction to stop Bose’s “wholesale disregard” for its customer’s privacy.
“People should be uncomfortable with it,” Christopher Dore, a lawyer representing Zak, told Reuters. ”People put headphones on their head because they think it’s private, but they can be giving out information they don’t want to share.”
Bose has not responded to requests for comment.
