You can always rely on Uniqlo for basics that are affordable but not cheaply made. But the brand isn’t just good for stocking up on tees and sweatshirts. For a few years now they’ve been producing collections in collaboration with big name fashion designers, from Alexander Wang to J.W. Anderson.
Their longest collaborative partnership has been with Christophe Lemaire, formerly the creative director of Hermès, who now helms his own namesake line and produces seasonal collections for Uniqlo, known as Uniqlo U.
The latest collection from the French designer mirrors the artistic vision for his namesake brand, only more accessible. For spring and summer, the color palette remains largely neutral, with the occasional muted purple or burnt orange. The clothes themselves are relaxed and breezy — loose hanging shirts that drape rather than slouch, slightly oversized chore and denim jackets that allow for breathability without drowning the wearer in excess fabric. They’re the kind of easy, timeless pieces ideal for spring and summer. And the best part is, their prices are no different from Uniqlo’s other goods. It’s like buying designer without having to pay the price.
