You and French Terry Are a Match Made in Summer

Outerknown's new collection is a sweatsuit we can get behind

As every man from the New York island to the Redwood Forest knows, the period from late summer to early fall is a sartorial conundrum.

It’s humid. Then it’s chilly. Then it’s storming. Then it’s sweltering even though that damn weather app said we’d gotten past the dog days. And all that’s happening while you’re packing in three-day beach weekends and cabin trips.

Here to save the day: Kelly Slater and a line of top-notch French terry layers.

The brand new Sur Collection from Outerknown, the surfer’s sustainable clothing brand, is ostensibly a line of sweats. But look closer, and it’s a surprisingly refined group of layers made from hemp and organic cotton — breathable, light but with some brawn. In other words, French terry that you can feel good about as well as feel good in.

Slip on a pair of the refined “Rain” sweatshorts with the zip-back pocket (yes, we did just use “refined” and “sweatshorts” in the same sentence). Or go traditional with the full-length in “Orchard.” Then top it off with a surfer’s choice of sweatshirts: the no-frills crew neck, the snap-button pullover or the classic zip hoodie.

Best part is: everything’s under $100.

So pack the lot in your duffel, skip out early and embrace the towel-texture aesthetic. As for the weather? Feel free to delete your app.
