Lacoste Is Swapping Out the Croc to Help Save Endangered Species

Sumatran tiger polo for a good cause?

The iconic Lacoste croc is hanging up its webbed feet for a bit.

Getting the nod in its stead?

Ten endangered species, as part of Lacoste’s Save Our Species campaign. Organized with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the French outfitter’s timeless polos will feature green stitchings of animals from some of the kingdom’s most heartbreakingly small populations, from the vaquita (a Gulf of California porpoise) to the Sumatran tiger.

The amount of polos on sale corresponds to each creature’s remaining population on the planet. For example, the Sumatran tiger, a victim of poaching and deforestation, is stitched on 350 shirts. The vaquita, with a population that’s dwindled due to lethal run-ins with shrimp gillnets, is on just 30 shirts. They’re priced at $185, with all profits going to the IUCN and its efforts to save these animals.

Given the benefits, we’d say that’s a Lacoste we can all afford.
