Boston-based RR Auction is presenting the Olympics a month early with its far-reaching online auction, which takes live bidding from July 14-21. Highlights include a gold medal from the 1908 London Olympics. What makes the item particular rare is the fact that it’s actually struck in solid gold, a type of medal only presented at the 1900, 1904, 1908, and 1912 Olympics (today’s “gold” medals are actually made of silver and then gilded with six grams of gold). Also included are a 1952 Oslo torch from the first Winter Olympics relay and a London 2012 Summer Olympics gold medal.
