New York Yankees Game Marred by Foul Ball Striking Young Fan in Head

Occurred during Todd Frazier at-bat in Wednesday's game versus the Minnesota Twins.

Baseball has rarely been a sport linked to brain trauma. But as hitters have gotten bigger and stronger, foul balls have become a potentially injurious threat to their own teammates—and sadly, fans.

Just such a scenario went down in the bottom of the 5th inning of yesterday’s New York Yankees-Minnesota Twins game. Yankees’ third baseman Todd Frazier lined a foul ball into the stands, hitting a young girl squarely in the face (watch the horrific video above). The Yankees later released this statement:

Both the Yankees’ and Twins’ dugouts—including Frazier—were visibly shaken by the incident, and following the game, Twins’ second baseman Brian Dozier called for mandatory netting at all stadiums. Listen to his statement below.
