One could argue that making a living as a celebrity photographer is like wading into shark-infested waters (what will all the competition from the paparazzi and such). Michael Muller’s living that life, both figuratively and literally. Known for photographing subjects like actor Brad Pitt and NBA superstar LeBron James, Muller recently began piecing together an underwater portfolio, featuring of the ocean’s deadliest predators: sharks.

Now, offered in a collector’s edition coffee-table book, Muller’s images bring to life an animal most of us would rather avoid. (We’ll let Muller risk his life for our viewing pleasure.) The photos are arranged geographically, so you can enjoy face-time with sand tiger sharks from South Africa, as well as great hammerheads from the Bahamas.

Oh, and then there’s his shot of a great white—the shark that inspired Jaws—which is likely the first-ever photograph of one surfacing at night.

Besides the stunning photos, you’ll also be able to read about Muller’s travels; dig into essays from Philippe Cousteau, Jr. and marine biologist Alison Kock; and get a lay of the land on all the technical equipment behind Muller’s spectacular shots.

Of course, a book as badass as this one comes packaged in its own metal cage—so every time you crack it open, you’re reminded of how much (cold) sweat was involved in bringing its contents to life.

The book retails for $3,000, and is limited to 1,000 copies, each signed by Muller. It will also be available in two “Art Editions” limited to just 100 copies, each including a signed and numbered print. To order Muller’s book, click here.
