Gaze Upon the Leather Jacket Your Closet’s Been Missing

Taylor Stitch and Golden Bear remix the classic flight jacket

San Francisco-based retailer Taylor Stitch knows how to make a jacket.

Maybe it’s the unpredictable Bay weather, or a deep understanding of the region’s rugged-but-fashionable aesthetic. For proof, look to its current collection, called Waypoint, which includes three jackets worth wearing (in order, the Hawkins in charcoal, the Albion in army, and the Albion in charcoal.)

Great stuff, through and through.

Which brings us to their latest: the Seca Jacket, a new collaboration with Golden Bear  — which is to our eyes the Platonic ideal of the leather jacket. Named for the Laguna Seca Nor Cal raceway, it’s an homage to a time when men drove cars fast and with aplomb, while paying styling tribute to the A-2 jackets worn by World War II fighter pilots.

You’ll wanna take look at original bomber jacket here — and then see how Taylor Stitch has streamlined and modernized their version while maintaining the commitment to premium materials, like hand-stained, full-grain steerhide and an interior lining of virgin wool, as well as satin-lined sleeves to improve entrance and egress. All the bells and whistles — like the fishhook latch at the collar — are present and accounted for.

Point is, we see a lot of leather jackets. And we’re not convinced you can do better than this one.
