If You Like Wine and Hate Music Festivals, You’ll Love This Music Festival

Napa Valley, violins and Bill Murray reading ‘Huck Finn’

Lately, I’ve been listening to one record. It doesn’t matter which. What matters is I’m old and more or less out of touch with contemporary music. But there is a place for me in this charmed world. A place where, perhaps more inwardly than outwardly, I belong. And strangely, it’s a music festival. But not just any music festival.

I’m talking about the the Festival Napa Valley.

On the schedule from July 14 to 23rd: more than 60 theater, dance and music shows. And this being Napa, there will be world-class wine. And food. And I very much like both of those things. Remember Gloria Estefan? She’ll be there. So will America’s favorite violinist, Joshua Bell. And Bill Murray, who’ll be reading excerpts from Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and A Moveable Feast over the strings of cellist Jan Vogler.

I’ll admit I’m unfamiliar with the rest of the bill. But I’m gonna go ahead and call this a banner year for a festival that began in 2006. Because the thing is, I do have great love for good music — especially if it doesn’t involve me standing in a madding crowd of teenage angst.

Now if I only had $10,000 for a full festival access pass.
