Round and round Johnny Depp‘s downward spiral goes—where it will stop, nobody knows.

At England’s Glastonbury Festival yesterday, Depp was speaking to an audience gathered outside a theater where his 2004 movie, The Libertine, was being screened. Depp first asked the audience, “Can we bring Trump here?” To which the crowd responded with jeers and boos. An audience member followed that up by asking Depp, “Just to give him some love and rehabilitation?” To which Depp replied, “I think he needs help.”

Then Depp shifted gears, floating the question, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” The crowd responded with cheers. He then said with a smile, “I want to clarify: I’m not an actor … I lie for a living.”

The response to his not-so-subtle hint at political violence was swift and damning. Republican Party chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel called his comments “disgusting” on Twitter.
