There is one shoe that supersedes all others:

The oxford.

Our long-time recommend for the best in the game: Paul Evans. Designed in New York, crafted in Italy.

Where else?

And now the previously direct-to-consumer brand has opened a handsome new brick-and-mortar.

Following the Warby Parker and Bonobos models, the Christopher Street locale is a guide shop rather than a cash-and-carry retailer. Guests ante up for the goods in-store, then PE ships your order directly from their factory. The store is really just a response to requests from fellas far and wide for a physical location to view and try on the wares.

If all goes well — which we’re certain it will — they’ll open a second location before the year’s end. Longview, the goal is 100 shops globally.

To boot, they’ve expanded their collection way beyond the brown leather day-to-nights they launched with two-and-a-half years ago.

Being long-time fans, we headed over to the shop right quick to pick out our favorites.

The Stewart Penny Loafer

Italian calfskin leather upper with matching leather sole. Handpainted and a solid pick whether you’re walking into the boardroom or strolling to brunch.

The Newman Chukka Boot

Chukkas are taking the shoe world by storm. Fine by us. Here’s a polished number with equal parts style and refinement.

The Poitier Double Monk Strap

Slick enough to net compliments. Subtle enough not to be a conversation piece.

The Legend High-top Sneaker

It’s high times for sneakers. To that end, a handsome high-top we’d even sport with a suit.

The McQueen Driving Shoe

Pebbled heel. Penny tongue. Sole tends to wear faster on your right foot because gas pedal.

The Briefcase

In brief, a solid carry. Minimal. Timeless.

The Backpack

Deftly holds all laptops, files, sunglasses, swim trunks. Everything you need for getting around the city and escaping from it quickly.
