Safari Tents on Governors Island, for Rent

Ever camped with Statue of Liberty views?

Decamping to the islands for a summer weekend used to take about five hours, weather permitting.

Now you can do it by ferry.

Because the luxury camping mavens at Collective Retreats are erecting their plush, Bedouin-style tents on Governors Island this summer.

The best part? You’ll pay as a little as $75 a night for NYC’s newest faux-camping haven.

Starting at $150 a night (there are limited sites at the $75 rate reserved for NYC residents), a fella can expect a safari-like dwelling with a king-size bed or two singles, 1,500-thread-count linens with Pendleton blankets, plenty of outlets for charging and all the fresh air the doctor ordered. Also included: a private en-suite restroom with flush toilets, rain showers, vanity and sink, and plenty of eco-friendly amenities.

Plus, you’ll wake up to a private deck with Adirondack for taking in Lady Liberty and harbor views, and guests will have access to the Three Peaks Lodge for dining and activities.

Not that the island is hurting for leisure: pop-up galleries, food trucks, bike rentals and a little piece of heaven called Hammock Grove all await.

Ferries run from 10 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday, and 10 AM to 7 PM on the weekends, so you’ll be on island time in a jiffy.

Bookings from June 1 to October 31 (save the latter half of June) are now open.
