“Man! I feel like a single.” That’s probably what Shania Twain told herself as she released her new single, “Life’s About to Get Good,” her first in 15 years.

The Canadian country star hit it big in the mid-to-late ’90s, first on the country charts (The Woman in Me) and then as a crossover sensation (Come On Over) with a string of memorable radio hits, including “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” “You’re Still the One,” and “Come On Over,” the latter of which won a Grammy. In fact, Come On Over is one of the bestselling albums of all time, with worldwide sales of more than 40 million.

Between then and now, though, Twain lived the lyrics of a country ballad. She nearly lost her singing voice and divorced her longtime partner, “Mutt” Lange (who cheated on her with her best friend; Twain ended up marrying her ex-best-friend’s ex-husband).

Twain’s fifth album, Now, is set to hit record stores on Sept. 29. Listen to “Life’s About to Get Good”—in which she sounds like she’s exorcising some of those demons—above.
