The new trailer for HBO’s three-part historical drama, Gunpowder, has dropped. Kit Harington stars as Robert Catesby, who was the driving force behind the Gunpowder Plot in London back in 1605.
Catesby was a committed Catholic and struggled to live in Protestant England, writes Indiewire, where Catholics were ruthlessly persecuted. The Game of Thrones star is actually related to Robert Catesby, making the show incredibly personal. King James’ spymaster, Robert Cecil, who oppresses those who are openly Catholic torture and death, will be played by Mark Gatiss. The show also stars Liv Tyler and Peter Mullan.
The first episode is set to premiere on HBO on Dec. 18. Watch the trailer above.
