The only thing we like better than one of our favorite brands releasing a shirt we want to live in 24/7/365 is when two of our favorite brands collaborate on said shirt and come up with something even better than the sum of its parts.

Such is the case with the new black denim shirt from menswear savant Billy Reid and the expert gear curators at Huckberry. The shop has been stocking Billy Reid’s clothes for a couple years now, including his best-selling denim shirts (which are also available in four more traditional blue washes). But for this limited-edition release, they decided to do something a little more daring, though still eminently wearable: washed black denim, antique brass snaps, the signature asymmetrical chest pockets, all made in the US of A.

You might be mulling over the occasions where it’d be appropriate to wear a black denim shirt. Aren’t black button-ups a little gauche? Well, shiny black dress shirts certainly are. But when it comes to black denim like this, it’s tough enough to act as a shirt jacket, with a henley underneath and worn open for any weekend outing. For a low-key work setting, it can also act as your base layer underneath a dark, casual jacket. But most likely, you’ll be reaching for this when you want something easy, comfortable and durable — and more appropriate for an adult man than a college football sweatshirt.

It’s a little bit Westen, a little but Steve McQueen, but done up to Bill Reid’s impeccable construction standards. And like the other denim shirts on offer at Huckberry, don’t expect the best sizing to last long.
