Let’s get one thing straight here: leather rules.
Looks good. Smells good. Feels good.
That said, it comes with a few bugaboos: like the fact that it’s nigh impossible to clean, and in some cases (suede) about as waterproof as a paper bag.
But L.A.-based cobbler House of Future is out to change that, with a collection of classically styled sneakers that are made from a “leather-grade microfiber” that is 100% synthetic.
These aren’t the hippified kicks you’ll find dangling in the Whole Foods apothecary. They are familiar silhouettes — at present, they’ve got a high top, a low top and a slip on — built with fabrics that are damn near indistuingishable from leather.
In other words: this isn’t the same pleather as that purse your girlfriend picked up off of a bootlegger in DTLA. It’s damn near the genuine article.
The secret? Two premium microfibers (one suede, one grain) that repel water (in the off chance it ever rains here) and cleaned up with a simple wipe of a rag. Offered in four colors, these simple sneakers will be your go-to for casual work environs and nights out on the town.
In the world of imitation leather shoes, House of Future is a step in the right direction.
