El Chino

What the well-dressed man in Los Angeles will be wearing this season. This is your Essential Fall Style Guide, Part Three: in which we recommend dark chinos.

Chinos, as Laura Prepon might say, are the new jeans.

Mostly because labels have been chain-stitching selvedge denim for a few years. Chinos are the new (old) frontier.

We prefer them straight-legged, flat-fronted and on the darker side.

The four we’ve got our eye on this fall:

J Brand – Kane

J Brand’s Kane jeans come in double-weave cotton with a little stretch, making them incredibly soft and sturdy. We like them in the industrial wash. Buy online.

AG – Slim Khaki

AG’s slim-fitting cotton chinos are snug and soft, with off-seam pockets and a darker hue that skews dressier. Wear to work and let ’em ride right through your after-hours date. Buy online.

Shades of Grey – Slim Fit Chino

Linen-soft cotton with light abrasions at the seams – for that relaxed look a Californian favors. Buy online.

Levi’s Made & Crafted – Track Slim

Technically not chinos, but these black Levi’s have the softness of a chino, and their dark wash makes them a great standby for nearly any LA occasion. Buy online.
