“Going out in L.A. isn’t about dressing up,” says Mike Appel. “It’s about dressing cool.”

Mike makes stylish, comfy undies and socks with his brother David under the banner Related Garments. The brothers have their hands in other projects, as well, including PLAYLIST YOGA (Mike) and the Five Four Club (David).

And whenever we see them out on the town, they’re exceedingly well put together. So we asked them to put together a getup that’ll stand any L.A. man out in a crowd.

From the shirt to the trousers to the perfect summer loafer, here it is — in five easy pieces.

The Basics: Related Garments
“They are the first thing you put on, and the last thing you take off,” says David. “People ask, ‘Why match?’, but it does matter … Your significant other or whoever you are taking on that date, they care that you are put together. The under-outfit requires a fresh set of stylish and comfortable socks and underwear.”

The Trouser: Haider Ackermann
“Haider Ackermann trousers are a classic staple for a night out on the town.” The slim-fitting slacks are made with a cotton/linen blend, which means they’e great for warm weather.

The Shirt: Yohji Yamamoto
David likes a Yohji Yamamoto long-sleeve shirt to compliment the trousers. “Basic yet edgy.”

The Watch: AVI-8 Hawker Hunter
“The Hawker Hunter watch from AV-8 is an accessory I never leave home without,” says Mike. “David is more about his vintage rings and bracelets he’s collected over the years, but I’m a watch guy.”
