That blue-eyed bon vivant from The Talented Mr. Ripley — rakish with his wind-tousled blonde hair, a worldly Princeton man if there ever were one — would be perfectly at home in Altai, the new men’s boutique from designer Amaryllis Knight.
Knight’s a designer, and by day she spiffs up palaces in the Hills and restaurants in Downtown. She just finished helping the Bäco Mercat guy design his third restaurant, the soon-to-open Orsa & Winston.
Altai, her skylit and gewgaw-ed 3rd Street showroom, is adorned with high-end duds (like Tim Coppens’s sporty leather jackets) and two heritage Vincent motorcycles (founded by a British fighter pilot, discontinued in the ‘50s).
But home furnishings are Knight’s forte.
Direct your gaze to the three weapons-grade accessories by Esque Studio: the heavy glass .38 Special, the antler slingshot and the tabletop fortress light.
For games of chance, grab Alexander Llewellyn’s zebra wood backgammon set, featuring statuesque nudes circa 1920 and leather dice cups.
Knight custom-builds furniture to your needs, too, and she designed all of Altai’s modern fixtures. And it’s all for sale. Including those motorcycles.
