Tadao Ando, renowned Japanese architect and chief champion of minimalism, once said: “If you give people nothingness, they can ponder what can be achieved from that nothingness.” That statement can be applied to life in general—but it perfectly encapsulates the design concept of “less is more.” Sometimes having a scarcity of stimuli can help give you clarity, honing your eyes in on the simple design aspects that often go unnoticed. That’s what true minimalism does.

RealClearLife has rounded up some of our favorite minimalist home interiors, featuring those trademark muted color palettes, clean lines, geometric spaces, and large glass windows. (Note: Traditionally, the spartan design movement prefers concrete over other materials, but a new wave of wood and marble have been swept up in the style as well.)
