In case you didn’t hear, the world’s first floating wood-fired hot tub is planning to hit the waters of the Regents Canal in London this summer and is now accepting applications for passengers.
But for those of us stateside and not in posh European canals, a Seattle-based carpenter has created an equally impressive looking version called The Hot Tub Boat. With a slatted deck handbuilt from African teak, the vessel’s Vinylester hull is propelled through the water by a 24-volt electric motor that’s controlled by a joystick. Capable of hitting up to 5 MPH in calm waters, the 16-foot watercraft can be out for up to 10 hours without recharging.
Situated in the boat’s center of buoyancy to provide exceptional stability, the 32-square-foot hot tub is two feet deep and has enough room for six adults and 2,100 pounds of water. Heat in the tub is provided by a diesel-powered boiler and the adjustable thermostat can go up to 104° F.
Add in four built-in coolers, a pair of 50-watt speakers that pop-up from the deck and plenty of additional storage and we’d say the 1,200-pound boat’s $42,000 price tag is almost a bargain.
