Today in House Porn: A Y-Shaped Villa That Blends Into the Earth

Plus panoramic views of the Mediterranean? How?

Take a Mediterranean landscape, like this one in Greece: tawny vistas, views of a cobalt-blue sea, gentle hills. Blink and you’re in Tatooine — or slightly more realistically, southern California, which means that this vacation spot, by London-based LASSA Architects, has plenty of design inspiration for Americans in need of a home away from home — and it includes some singular notes from the brief: “The height of the house is limited to the tip of the olive trees to enable its integration with the surrounding landscape,” its architect told Design Boom.

The 150-square-meter house (that’s about 1,600 square feet) blends seamlessly into its surroundings, topped by a Y-shaped green roof that separates the surrounding outdoor space into three separate courtyards; shady areas are formed by an extensive roof overhang. It’s engineered to take advantage of the surrounding topography to generate ventilation — meaning no air conditioners needed, as residents can rely on breezes coming off the nearby bay. The interior is the real jaw-dropper, with curvaceous floor-to-ceiling windows framing killer views. Like of the pool. For when lounging inside gets too tiring.
