Suspending a tent from a tree: from some perspectives — most of them, in fact — this would seem to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.
Is sleeping on the ground really so bad, snowflake? With the rocks? And the snakes? And the puddles?
OK, so maybe there are a few reasons (read: snakes, the achey back you’ll inevitably wake up with) why you might want to hang your tent from a tree. And the latest version, from TreePod and available in April, is made for two adults, each offered the pleasures of their own entryway and sleeping area. Guy lines secure the tent to the ground.
The tent can hang from a single point of suspension (as long as said point can support around 400 lbs.), meaning that unlike similar models, it won’t require the cooperation of two amenable trees and/or branches. So think of it more like a chandelier or mobile than a hammock.
Note: two American adults often weigh over 400 pounds, so you’ll want to keep an eye on your buddy’s portion control if you’ll be splitting the roughly 32 square feet of floor space with him for the night.
