A Russian Space Colony Is Taking Citizenship Applications

If so-and-so wins the election, we're moving to ... Asgardia?

If the state of things down on planet Earth has you looking to make moves, we don’t blame ya.

Fortunately, there’s a space colony on the way for achieving just that. And it doesn’t involve Branson, Bezos or Musk.

The brainchild of Russian businessman/scientist Igor Ashurbeyli, Asgardia is a space nation currently accepting applications for citizenship in the hope of gaining recognition from the UN.

While still a concept as opposed to a physical place, Asgardia says it will “offer an independent platform free from the constraint of a land-based country’s laws” and plans to make all decisions “primarily on a scientific basis” while becoming “a place in orbit which is truly ‘no man’s land.’”

In order to demonstrate he’s serious about Asgardia, Ashurbeyli plans to launch the country’s first prototype satellite within the next two years as well as pick an anthem, flag and insignia. Though Ashurbeyli’s vision for an “unrestricted society which holds knowledge, intelligence and science at its core” sounds like a joke, someone is taking it seriously, as the country has already been victimized by, and recovered from, a cyberattack.

To get out of Earth and in on Asgardia with 500,000 others, fill out your citizenship papers here.
