Musicologist Reconstructs What 18th Century Paris Sounded Like

What did 18th century Paris sound like? In a cross-discipline collaboration with sociological and historical scholars, musicologist Myléne Pardoen has crafted a sonic reconstruction to answer that question.

Pardeon and her team utilized architectural measurements and historical research of Paris’ Grand Châtelet district — chosen for its concentration of diverse clamor — as the setting for sound. Thanks to technological advances, modern day tourists can now plug in their headphones and step back in time.
