If you’re ready to test-drive the latest gadget focused on fitness, get naked. Created by a duo of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs floating on $14 million of Silicon Valley investment dollars, “Naked” is the world’s first 3D body scanner that can be implemented into your bedroom—or closet—to provide an accurate portrait of exactly what kind of shape you’re in.

The $1,395 device is creatively disguised to fit into any room. It’s a two-piece set and it includes a full-length 3D scanning mirror with a WiFi/Bluetooth connected turntable scale, both paired with a companion mobile app.  It’s such a sophisticated setup you can see why this suite of products required over 3 years of development.

The scanning process is simple. Once you’ve gotten down to your skivvies or even your birthday suit, just step on the scale and press “GO.” The scale rotates 360 degrees in 20 seconds, using depth-sensing technology inside the accompanying mirror to build an accurate and maybe unforgiving portrait of your physique.

The scanner covers 4 million points on your body, then users can view their 3D scan on the Naked app and see critical metrics like body fat percent, lean mass and fat mass, circumferences, side-by-side comparisons, and graphs of historical data.

The real fun comes when progress is made. With a simple scroll, you can compare archived digital images of your body, showing the physical change in your body shape achieved through your newfound healthy lifestyle.

According to Naked’s founders, Farhad Farahbakhshian and Ed Sclater, this comparison is far more likely to help maintain your New Year’s resolution rather than a number on a bathroom scale. “Today, people are searching for evidence-based methods to track health and fitness that aren’t solely focused on weight,” Farahbakhshian told RealClear Life.

“We are excited to get Naked into people’s homes to give them better insight into exactly what’s going on in their body and help them work towards their goals.”

While fitness is the gadget’s sole goal for the time being, it’s expected that Naked’s in-home 3D scanning technology will be put to use in a variety of different ways, but perhaps most interesting — and potentially lucrative — is the ability to measure custom clothing. As in-home shopping continues to boom with web retailers like StitchFix and Trunk Club, Naked envisions a world where your body’s scan becomes the template for making and purchasing clothing tailored specifically to you — just be prepared to spend some time in the buff.
