Make Your iMac Into a Touchscreen in 10 Seconds

While Apple spurns a beloved technology, a startup steps up

Contrary to popular belief, the iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone with touchscreen capabilities.

That honor goes to one of Apple’s main competitors, IBM, which rolled out the Simon in 1992.

Now, once again, Apple is lagging in the touchscreen department, so far declining to integrate the technology into desktop computers and laptops — as so many of its competitors have done.

Thanks to a tech design firm that grew tired of Apple dragging its feet, you no longer need to wait for Cook & Co. to embrace the touch revolution. Instead, you can simply convert your pre-existing 21.5-inch or 27-inch iMac into a touchscreen in seconds, using a plastic-and-metal cover that connects via USB.

The Zorro Macsk frame from TMDtouch contains infrared transmitters that give it the ability to add touch powers to a glass screen, and it easily snaps into place using magnets.

Designboom calls the gizmo, which is priced at $199, “a price-friendly solution for adding touchscreen functionality to any iMac.”

By the way, while the Zorro Macsk won’t work if you’re a PC instead of a Mac, this little doohickey will.
