Because the interwebs are crammed full of crazy things, and sometimes the purpose of those things is not immediately discernible, we present WTF Is It?

WTF are those?
The GoSun Grill (above right) and the SolSource Solar Cooker (left).

What do they do?
They claim to be able to harness the power of the sun to provide fuel-free food prep.

Who makes ‘em?
The GoSun comes from a company of the same name, while the SolSource is produced by One Earth Designs, both of which are firms that produce a range of solar-powered cooking devices.

What’s the difference?
Well besides the fact that the SolSource looks like it was created by a tanning enthusiast, the primary differentiator is methodology: the SolSource’s parabolic mirror concentrates direct sunlight to heat up cookware, whereas the GoSun collects power from the sun to heat its vacuum tube to bake, roast, steam or fry food.

Why are they better than grill I have already?
In truth, they might not be. That said, the main appeal of both devices is they don’t require any fuel other than sunlight to work, and are ready to start cooking within moments of being set up.

How hot do these things get?
The GoSun can get as hot as 450 degrees Fahrenheit ,while the SolSource goes up to 550.

What are we talking pricewise?
The SolSource is priced at $499 and the GoSun is $799, but there are other options as well.
