Long before people were adding six filters to a photo in search of the perfect sunset selfie, photographers would stare at tableaux for hours, waiting for a singular moment in which to capture the perfect natural light.
Trying to nail those magic hours with incandescent bulbs at home? Fuhgetaboutit.
… unless, it appears, you’re working with a Sun Memories, a new LED lamp that can “record” your favorite sunlight moments and then replay them later in your abode.
Sun Memories works like so: you wear a device (doesn’t say where you wear it) and hit record when you see a sunrise, magic hour or sunset you fancy. It can record up to six hours, and relays all the data to your phone. When you get home, that data syncs to a special lamp, which then mimics the light by using an LED bulb cast onto a circular shade.
That circular shade disperses the light throughout the room and is meant to recreate “colour, intensity and fickleness: from the moments of shadow, to the vibrancy of a sunny day.”
It’s in production now, so we’ll have to wait to see if it’s a work of realism or something more impressionistic.
