Of course we should shop and consume responsibly; however, the do-gooder marketing in the last few weeks has been over the top. Your shirt made of recycled plastic fished out of the ocean by a non-profit group on an emissions-free boat is a great story, yes. It’s also something we don’t need to hear every time you wear it, Todd.
The best part of Patagonia’s 55L Planing Duffel Bag is that it serves its intended purpose well — “carry wet and dry together, but happily apart,” as the company notes. It’s an adventure-ready bag with a roomy top interior for your dry stuff, a separate waterproof compartment for shoes or wet gear on the bottom, and an exterior mesh pocket on the side with drain holes for quick access to valuables (or to air out more wet clothing). You can carry as a duffel or wear as a backpack, and the exterior is water- and tear-resistant.
So it’s a great bag for rougher terrains or gym days, first and foremost.
Now, to feel good: The Planing is constructed from 100% recycled polyester. It’s a nice fact to know but it’s also not something Patagonia — a company well-known for its eco sensibilities — is shouting from the rafters.
