Ansel Adams once argued the most important component of a camera is the 12 inches behind it.

Then again, Ansel Adams never had a remote-controlled personal drone with an image-stabilizing 4K camera attached to its undercarriage.

Parachut does.

Parachut is a new subscription service that provides shutterbugs with unlimited access to high-end photo and video equipment to meet every need and skill level.

Like some bizarro combination of Netflix, eHarmony and LensRentals, they ask users to fill out a profile and make a gear wish list. The service then creates a custom set of gear to fit a client’s project — lenses, drones, DSLRs, analog models, shot stabilizers — based on what’s available in the warehouse and sends it all out in a package with pre-paid labels for return shipping. Don’t lose ‘em.

There’s no time limit on how long members can keep the gear, and they also offer an option to purchase the equipment at a discounted rate should you fall in love with the equipment while shooting.

The service costs $149 per month but the first one will only run you $99 if you reserve now.
