Slane Irish Whiskey
Just launched, this triple-casked Irish whiskey (via virgin oak, seasoned oak and sherry casks) is one smooth sipper … and hails from the family behind Ireland’s excellent Slane Concert series. Available online for preorder and in select U.S. markets in July. To whet your appetite, Lucinda Sterling of New York’s cocktail den Middle Branch suggests the following:
Castle Negroni by Lucinda Sterling (Middle Branch)
1.25 oz Slane Irish Whiskey
1 oz Campari
.75 oz Pama Pomegranate Liqueur
Combine all ingredients in a rocks glass. Add one large ice cube (or several small cubes). Stir 5-6 times with a bar spoon until thoroughly mixed and chilled. Garnish with an orange twist. Says Sterling: “In our answer to the Negroni, we sub Slane for gin to create a warmer profile. To that end, we swapped the usual sweet vermouth for Pama pomegranate liqueur, whose more intense, tart sweetness would stand up better against the kick of the whiskey.”
