I’m one of those people who doesn’t live and die by the latest tech upgrade. I appreciate the lack of infotainment in my car. I own an iPhone that’s a few generations old. And smart speakers where I talk to some data-collecting virtual assistant? No thanks.
However, I will make an exception for the new GoPro. Especially as the Hero9 Black, the latest version of the action camera which was just released last month, is already $50 off on the company’s website. (There are two options to choose from: the $350 package that includes a one-year membership to GoPro’s subscription service, but will be $50 a year after that, or $400 for just the camera, 32GB SD card and case, which is what is on sale, down from $450).
I’m currently in the process of testing the Hero9 Black for a full review (look out for that soon), but the benefits of this camera are literally and figuratively crystal clear. It’s now capable of truly mesmerizing 5K video and 20 megapixel photos, in a camera that fits in your palm — which wouldn’t honestly be so impressive if not for the company’s proprietary HyperSmooth video stabilization functionality which gets an upgrade in this model. To me, the stabilization is so good it feels like a weekend warrior Steadicam, lending professional quality to amateur videos. There’s plenty more to love about the Hero9, including a new front-facing display, so go ahead and treat yourself to something better than your iPhone camera.
