Amazon’s Fire HD tablets aren’t nearly equal to my iPad, but they have affordability on their side. And if you’re comfortable in the Amazon ecosystem (Amazon Music, Prime Video, Kindle reading, etc.) they’re a good, cheap option.

And now they’re getting powerful. The just-launched Fire HD 8 features 2 GB RAM and 32-64 GB of internal storage — and up to 1 TB with a microSD card. It now utilizes USB-C for quicker charging, and the new 2.0 GHz quad-core processor promises speeds up to 30% faster.

Add in a 12-hour battery life per charge, and you pretty much have an Amazon tablet that’s doubled the capabilities of the Fire 7. And prices start at just $90.

The other new Amazon releases this week include the Fire 8 HD Plus, which adds wireless charging, and the Fire HD 8 Kids, which arrives with a “kid-proof” case and a two-year warranty.

You can order all the devices now for delivery in June.
