What on God’s Green Earth Could Justify a $25K Taco?

We know guac is pricey but this is ridiculous!

Is a taco with langoustine, Kobe beef, Almas Beluga caviar, black truffle brie and salsa made from Morita chilies, Ley.925 tequila and civet coffee on a gold flake-infused tortilla worth $25k?

Thankfully, at least for the time being, the world doesn’t think so.

Unveiled late last month by chef Juan Licerio Alcala at the Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort in Baja, the out-of-the-shell creation requires a $12,500 deposit and a stay in the presidential suite. Oh, and it will be served in the middle of the desert by a motorcycle entourage, according to the AFP.

While Alcala claims customers who like to “push the boundaries” have expressed interest in the dish, not a single person has ordered it, preferring instead to waste their money in more conventional ways … like the $150k bottles of Ley.925 Pasión Azteca Premium Añejo he offers.

“I created the taco by searching for the most premium products from Mexico — like the Morita chiles, tequila, lobster — and combining them with the most expensive ingredients found around the globe,” Alcala told Conde Nast Traveler.

If the world stays sane and the tacos don’t sell, he should try making nachos with these instead.
