Staff Picks: All the Stuff Our Editors Fell In Love With This Week
A fox-hunting Swatch, mountaineering sunnies, coffee and more
Welcome to InsideHook’s Staff Picks, a compendium of all the things our editors have been digging on recently.
Swatch Red Jacket Watch
This watch is silly as hell and will probably stop working when it gets struck by an errant croquet ball at some point this summer, but until then, I will cherish it. — Walker Loetscher, Editor in Chief
Aldo Men’s Mx Sneaker
I’m a bit hesitant on white sneakers come warmer weather (despite all the great options). Is this fresh-out-the-box radiance going to blind someone on a subway platform? And how much scuff is too much scuff? I’ll avoid that turmoil by endorsing Aldo’s Men’s Mx sneaker as a go-to spring option. They pair well with no-show socks and a rolled chino, feel like portable clouds underfoot and most importantly, come in 15 different colorways. — Tanner Garrity, Associate Editor
Sunski “Treelines” Glacier Glasses
It’s been less than a week since I dropped a guide to the best sunglasses for under a hundred bucks, but of course the crafty bastards at Sunski had to go and release this awesomely retro mountaineer-inspired pair just days later. Which I guess I could just add to that article retroactively since we’re living in a digital world, but that seems too muted a shoutout for a pair of eyeball windows that immediately lend the wearer a degree of windburnt Eiger slope cred. — Danny Agnew, Creative Director
Ecoffee Bamboo Travel Cup
Not only is this coffee cup reusable, it’s made of bamboo fiber. Meaning: 1) it won’t taint your expertly crafted latte and 2) years down the road when you’re done with it, simply crush, soak in boiling water and compost. I’ve been using this all-black cup (and getting compliments from baristas) for a few months. Now, branded versions are popping up in local coffee shops — so get one now and say you were eco-conscious ahead of the curve. — Alex Lauer, Associate Editor
Coyuchi Cloud Loom Robe
Got one of these for the old lady during the holidays and she absolutely loves it. It’s unisex as well, so don’t be afraid to treat yourself, fellas — this puppy is about as soft as an actual puppy. — Eli London, Director of Partnerships
Grounds and Hounds Coffee
And speaking of coffee cups and puppies, today (Friday, March 23rd) is National Puppy Day. So get a bag of delicious, gourmet coffee beans — perhaps the Papers & Slippers blend — from a company that donates 20% percent of proceeds to dog charities. — Kirk Miller, Managing Editor/Nation Editor
THE BEST THING WE DRANK THIS WEEK
We’re gonna pretend it’s spring and drink something built for sunnier days. Courtesy of Johnny Swet and NYC rooftop cocktail bar The Skylark, this refresher proves that vodka has its place in the cocktail world.
Spring Cucumber Collins
1 Italian parsley sprig, muddled
1.5 oz. Cucumber Vodka
1 oz. Elderflower Liqueur
.75 oz. lemon juice
.5 oz. agave nectar
Shake with ice, strain into a tall glass with cubed ice and stir in soda. Top with a cucumber & parsley garnish.
