Just as cooking shows have more or less become character-driven travelogues, so too have cookbooks transcended the traditional compendium of recipes to establish a new form of memoir.

Consider the new cookbook from chef, rapper and TV personality Action Bronson. His show on VICE, Fuck, That’s Delicious, just spawned a cookbook chocked with vivid photography, colorful illustrations and stories from Bronson’s travels and childhood.

Yes, there are recipes (aided by food writer Rachel Wharton). But there are also tons of anecdotes and shots from the road. That it’s all centered around food only speaks to how we as a culture now, more than ever, define ourselves by what we eat (and listen to).

As a musician, Bronson raps about food, and as the host of a food show, he’s at home sharing a kitchen with the nation’s best toques. His jovial disposition is bolstered by a strong Flushing accent and copious amounts of ganja (this is VICE, after all), making it all the more hilarious. Not to mention, we once watched the dude huck free hoagies into the audience for 20 minutes at the end of a gig in New York.

The recipes, like a cheese-laden chicken parm (video above), are the sort of elevated stoner comfort food no man can refuse.
