Somm’s Away

Getting the best and rarest stuff usually involves having “a guy.” A wizened Red to your wet-eared Andy, a la Shawshank.

When it comes to wine and spirits, we’ve got that guy. And you don’t even have to go to prison to meet him. Just hit up SommPicks.

Run by Mike Zima, formerly the head sommelier at Del Posto, plus a murderer’s row of wine experts (the sommelier at Daniel, the sommelier at DB Bistro Moderne), SommPicks should be your go-to source for rare and amazing wines – and now spirits – that Zima discovers on his global travels.

He’s got finds like a 2006 Roulot Meursault Les Luchets, which boasts a “cult-like following within the sommelier community,” or a 1996 A & G Fantino Barolo Vigna Dei Dardi, a bottle you’ll rarely find stateside.

And if you’re feeling slightly more spiritous, SP also stocks a range of super sought-after whiskeys, like Jefferson Presidential Select 21 and the great amber whiskey whale itself, Pappy Van Winkle 23.

We just got word that some of this stuff went up on the site moments ago. And in a few moments more it will be gone.

So hop to it, guy.
