Night Bites

The NoMad neighborhood is abuzz these days with chic hotels and new boutiques, distinguishing it from the fro-yo carts, 2(X)ist billboards, and bubbly F.I.T. students of upper Chelsea, also known as the Glee-Packing District.

Get in on the action with Hester Nights – a free, weekly outdoor “artisan night food market” kicking off Thursday evening, and running through October 25th.

Launched by the artsy cartel behind the Lower East Side’s Hester Street Fair (one’s an architect, another’s a MTV host), Hester Nights takes place in the sprawling, tree-lined pavilion of the Eventi Hotel Open Air Plaza.

The plaza will play host to over 15 local purveyors hawking artisan eats – from Brooklyn fried-chicken wizards Pies N’ Thighs and their honey-and-hot-sauce drizzled “chicken biscuit”, to the “super fancy grilled cheeses” of Little Muenster, which include creations such as maytag blue, muenster and crisped pear puree.

Events are planned throughout the summer, including concerts, screenings on a 30-foot HD screen (the biggest in New York), art installations, and an adjacent “lifestyle concept shop” featuring wares from style arbiters like Freeman’s Sporting Club.

Now for artisanal eats, there’s no need to endure the hectic streets below Houston, which can be L.E.S. Misérables.
