Summer Concert Series in the Catacombs, If You Dare

A classical music series comes to the Green-Wood catacombs

May 1, 2018 9:00 am

The first three quarters of this date night are pretty standard fare.

You dress up. You wine. You dine.

And then you hail a cab for a sacred burial ground.

The Angel’s Share is a just-announced, super-intimate summer concert series with a very special venue: the historic Catacombs at Green-Wood Cemetery.

Tickets will go fast, so book ‘em now and rest in peace.

THE FIT
A peculiar date requires looking the part. Just remember: you’re still headed to the symphony, not a nightclub. So suit up like so, but don’t hesitate to wear sneaks — Green-Wood is massive, and you’ll certainly be doing some walking. Cop an appropriately dark pair at Greats’ new NYC flagship on the corner of Crosby and Broome.

THE FARE
You’re already crossing the river, so might as well head to one of Prospect Heights’ finest locales while you’re at it. For fancy eats, check out Olmstead and its lovely backyard. Faun’s (pictured) for non-red-sauce Italian. James for the perfect burger. And if you want a casual bite or dive bar drink post-concert, you won’t beat Sea Witch. They have great cocktails, tacos and board games.

THE FANFARE
The Crypt Sessions concert series makes for a date night you’ll never forget. And thankfully — since the tickets tend to sell out in moments — the series has expanded to the historic Catacombs at the Green-Wood cemetery. It’s called The Angel’s Share, and performances will range from the world premiere of David Hertzberg’s chamber opera The Rose Elf to Gregg Kallor’s Sketches from Frankenstein. Each happening also includes a pre-concert reception complete with a whiskey tasting whilst overlooking the Manhattan skyline and harbor at sunset. Book here, and fast — these seats won’t last. The first show is scheduled for June 6th.
