In 2007, Doug Walker was strolling the Rose Bowl Flea when he came across three boxes of photo negatives.
Inside: more than 30,000 stills documenting the golden age of surfing. Walker knew he was sitting on gold, but before he could publish them, he had to locate the photographers.
In the decade since, Walker has traveled from the Venice Beach boardwalk to the soft sands of Oahu’s North Shore…
And track them down he did, a group of 10 photographers — all well-known folks from the pages of Surfer Mag and Surfing Magazine — who were behind all 30,000 of the snaps.
And you can now own all their work thanks to The Lost & Found Collection: Volume I, out now and available at surfing stores and Ron Hermans throughout town. More books will follow.
Lost and Found also makes T-shirts using the pictures, all totally custom; if you see an image in the book you like, they’ll put it on a shirt for you.
It won’t make you surf better. But at least you’ll look the part.
