Back in the spring, I wrote a glowing review of a carbon steel roasting pan from Smithey Ironware Co. Four months later, I still appreciate that lovingly hand-forged piece of cookware as much as I did when I cooked my first paella.
If you missed the boat on that one, that’s fine, because the Carbon Steel Farmhouse Oval Roaster, an oblong version of the same pan, is currently discounted at Huckberry. Let’s be clear: this is a rare discount. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sale on Smithey’s cookware, be it their carbon steel or cast iron, so if you’ve ever considered trying them (or are just hearing about the company today), now’s your best chance to score a deal.
We’ve talked about the brand’s signature cast-iron skillets before, but what makes this carbon steel roaster special is that the brand tapped renowned blacksmith Robert Thomas to create it, along with a few other choice pieces. If name dropping doesn’t impress you, then consider that carbon steel is a happy medium between cast iron and nonstick cookware. Plus, this particular pan is also similar to copper cookware, meaning it’s worthy of hanging on a hook in the middle of your kitchen, or going straight from the oven to your table.
Oh, and according to Huckberry, there are only a few of these pans on sale, so nab the discount before some other budding home chef does.
