Updated on 4/14.

Last week my local grocery store in Brooklyn had a paucity of chicken and ground beef (and bread and toilet paper).

But it had a perfectly decent selection of seafood, steaks and pork. A few days later, there was chicken everywhere but other meats were wiped out.

Shopping in the age of COVID-19 is difficult, and we’re all trying to limit our social interactions … which includes shopping, even for essentials.

While we should support local businesses when we can (and local delivery services), there are times to use the mail to get your kitchen staples. Personally, we have an order coming in from Omaha Steaks this week, which is offering some nice discounts albeit with some stalled delivery times.

Below, a check-in on what our favorite mail-order meat purveyors are offering during these stay-at-home times. Do note that orders will undoubtedly take longer than usual and you should follow some safety tips when handling the deliveries.

Omaha Steaks

Omaha Steaks

A “Stock-Up Sale” sees deals of up to 60% off on orders like a 33-item “Gourmet Value Package” of steaks, chops, burgers, chicken breasts and more, with several other bulk protein orders offering at least half off. It works out to about $5-$6 per meat selection.

Snake River Farms

Snake River Farms

All “fresh” orders over $199 will ship for free through 3/29 with delivery available this week (use the code FRESH20). This is for wet-aged and dry-aged Northwest and American Wagyu beef via a NY-based distributor.

While orders may take up to 5-7 days to ship due to high demand (and a fair amount is currently out of stock, though they’re working on it), the company’s started offering free shipping subscription boxes.

Chicago Steak Company

“We’re still shipping on time,” as the brand’s website notes, while offering free shipping on orders of $99 or more and a 20% off discount (code: FREEZER) on “freezer fillers,” aka everyday meat staples.

Goldbelly

Goldbelly

This company is best known for partnering with famous restaurants nationwide to deliver customers their favorite dishes. In lieu of, say, a cheesesteak platter, you could take advantage of the company’s various flash sales (plus $15 off first orders) and target some high-end steaks and other meats from big-name butchers and suppliers.

Belcampo

Belcampo

The well-loved (and high-end) butcher shop is open, though the only “deal” right now is getting a free side and some other perks if you download and order through the Belcampo app.

Allen Brothers

These steak purveyors have been providing USDA prime beef (almost exclusively from the U.S.) to restaurants and consumers since 1893. But they also deal in veal, poultry, seafood and lamb, and their current selections seems to be well in stock. Free steak burgers or ribeye steaks are current deals for spending $149-$219.

Meat N’ Bone

For now it’s same-day delivery in South Florida and 48 hr. delivery rest of state and “a bit longer” nationwide for this online butcher. Besides steaks, short ribs, chorizo, Iberico pork, brisket burgers and lamb are your best bets — much like a lot of online retailers, the chicken selections are sparse. Not a lot of specific deals here, but you can save some by ordering bundles (and an extra 5% with the code BUNDLES).

Perini Ranch

If you’re craving just a great cut of meat, this Texas restaurant (currently only doing delivery, obviously) can send a Mesquite Smoked Peppered Beef Tenderloin for 6-8 people via overnight shipping.

ButcherBox

While you currently can’t order from ButcherBox unless you’re already a member, you can sign up to join their waitlist become the first to know when they’re ready to receive orders. Once you’re off the waitlist you’ll have the ability to to choose from one of their curated boxes or create your own box of beef, chicken and pork.

D’Artagnan Foods

D’Artagnan partners strictly with small farms and ranches that never use hormones or antibiotics and are all committed to free-range production and humane farming practices, that align with their philosophy. The brand is currently offering up to 25% off select frozen favorites, including beef, duck and even foie gras cubes.

Market House

If you’re unable to visit your neighborhood butcher, Market House is the next best thing. Not only can they meet all your meat needs, they also have a nice selection of fish, king crab and shellfish. And, when they’re not out of stock, they have four starter kits to choose from if you’re feeling indecisive. But it couldn’t hurt to pick up some $11 thick-cut bacon while you’re at it.

Rastelli’s

All of Rastelli’s meats are 100% antibiotic, steroid and hormone-free, so you’ll be able to eat in good conscience. The boxes offered are everything from your classic sirloin to wild caught shrimp, and even precooked bone-in ribs. You can opt for a one-time purchase or if you subscribe you’ll save 5%.

Crowd Cow

When it comes to transparency, it really doesn’t get more transparent than Crowd Cow. With each delivery you’ll receive information about the animal’s breed and how it was raised, in addition to details about the farm it was raised. Their boxes start at $99 and go to $249, but when you subscribe you save 5% on every box.
