Because every man needs a plan, and some of us need that plan with pretty pictures, we present Where to Take Her: a series that answers a gentleman’s most pressing lifestyle questions and recurs whenever we get around to it. Up today: beaches, lakefront and beyond. Sally forth.

Your Key:

Hartigan Beach Rogers ParkQuiet. Relaxing. No tourists. That’s Hartigan Beach, a hidden cove in Rogers Park only accessible via Albion St. off Sheridan.

La Jolla ShoresLa Jolla, California – Sights out west? La Jolla’s pristine beaches sit just north of San Diego while being far less touristy. On hand: charming restaurants, quaint boutiques and access to Coronado Island. Stay at La Valencia Hotel to be close to the water.

Miller BeachGary, Indiana – A beautiful and well-kept beach surrounded by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. And at just an hour’s drive from the city, it’s perfect for day-tripping. Beers at 18th Street Brewery are a must.

North Ave. BeachLincoln Park – Yes, it gets crowded. But we’re assuming that’s what you’re going for. There’s Castaways. Paddle boarding. And jet skis. Maybe play a game of pickup volleyball. Flex. But not too hard.

Newport Harbor Newport, RI – Classic New England coastal town. Cottages abound. If you really want to make the most of your time in the City by the Sea, take an America’s Cup Charter and shack up in this vintage houseboat.

Ohio St. Beach Streeterville – No crowds here; they’re all at Oak St. Beach, which — once you’re done lazing at Ohio St. — is conveniently within walking distance. Eat at Caffe Oliva if you’re looking for a comfy beach terrace.

Tulum Beach Tulum, Mexico – Ancient Mayan ruins and limestone sands adorn this hip beach getaway in the Riviera Maya. You’ll surely climb the ruins — but only after dipping your toes in those crystal blue Caribbean waters.
